FAQ

FAQs About My Birth Doula Services

1. What is a birth doula, and what do you do?

As a birth doula, I provide continuous physical, emotional, and informational support during labor and delivery. I advocate for your preferences, offer comfort measures, and create a calm, empowering birthing environment tailored to your needs.

6. How can you help me with my birth plan?

I provide evidence-based information and emotional support to help you create a birth plan that aligns with your goals. If things need to change during labor, I’ll be there to help you adapt while keeping your preferences in mind.

2. How are you different from a midwife or an OB/GYN?

My role focuses solely on emotional and physical support. I don’t perform clinical tasks like a midwife or OB/GYN. Instead, I work alongside your care team to enhance your overall birth experience, making sure you feel supported and confident.

7. Do you only support natural births?

No! I support all types of births, whether they’re unmedicated, medicated, cesarean, VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean), or home births. My priority is supporting your choices and making sure you feel empowered throughout the process.

3. Will you replace my partner's role during labor?

Not at all! I’m here to complement your partner’s support, guiding and assisting them to be as involved and effective as they want to be. Together, we form a team to ensure you feel cared for, respected, and comfortable.

8. What comfort techniques do you use?

I use a variety of techniques, including massage, breathing exercises, position changes, hydrotherapy, and relaxation guidance. I also offer verbal encouragement and suggest tools like birthing balls and heat packs to make you more comfortable.

4. When should I hire you as my birth doula?

The sooner, the better! Hiring me early in your pregnancy gives us time to build a strong connection and plan for your ideal birth. That said, I can join your journey at any stage, even late in pregnancy.

9. Do you stay after the baby is born?

Yes! I’ll stay for 1–2 hours after your baby’s arrival to ensure you’re comfortable, assist with breastfeeding (if you choose), and provide emotional support as you transition into postpartum.

5. Will you be on call for my delivery?

Yes, absolutely! I’ll be on call for you starting two weeks before your due date and remain available until after your baby is born.

10. What happens if you can’t make it to my birth?

In the rare event I can’t be there, I have a backup doula ready to step in. We’ll discuss this plan during our initial consultation so you feel reassured and prepared.
